18:36 2016 Shelby GT350 officially revealed
After months of rumors, spy shots, and built-up excitement, Ford has officially revealed the 2015 Mustang Shelby GT350 and given us all the details! We have been following every little piece of SVT/GT350 news that has leaked or mentioned, but today we finally have confirmation from the Blue Oval itself that S550 GT350 is coming in 2015 and it is going to pack one hell of a punch! GT350 Engine and DrivelineBack in the summer we had heard that Ford was working on a new Voodoo Engine for the GT350, which was suspected to be a 5.2L engine with a flat-plane crankshaft. In Ford’s press release, the 5.2L flat-plane crankshaft engine has been confirmed for the GT350. While we have no dyno-proven numbers as of yet, Ford states that this new 5.2L engine will be a “high revving, naturally aspirated V8 engine” for a “track-focused Mustang” with power out-put expected at 500+ HP and 400+ TQ. With the flat-plane crankshaft (FPC), Ford says that we can expect a high-revving engine with a broad torque curve that gives flexibility and performance to each gear. While it has been confirmed that there will only be a 6 speed manual transmission, there is no official word on whether it will be a Tremec or Getrag transmission. However, spy shots of the GT350′s interior from the summer show the shift pattern and seem to point towards a Getrag MT-82 transmission. A Torsen limited-slip differential will help to put the power to the ground in each corner and on the straights as well. GT350 HandlingRight off the bat, Ford says they have improved torsional stiffness by 28% over the previous model, while lowering ride height and improving on the suspension all the way around. A large part of the new suspension improvements is in thanks to magnetic ride suspension, giving the new 2015 Mustang GT350 incredibly responsive handling, which will also be “confidence inspiring” according to Ford. To help with grip and handling are 19″ aluminum alloy wheel that are 10.5 in the front and 11 in the rear and wrapped in Michelin Pilot Super Sport rubber. Bringing every to a stop are massive two-piece, cross drilled, six piston Brembo brakes that Ford says is, “the most track credible brake system ever offered on a Ford.” Ford has pushed the envelope in every aspect of this Mustang; from the engine to handling, Ford has made every choice with performance in mind. The 2015 GT350 was designed, not styled and was built around the function of the car, instead of giving function to a form.
